What’s James Bond got to do with design frameworks and Party Boy from Jackass?
That was one of the questions we weren’t asked ⛔️ at last week’s DO25 Pub Quiz—but somehow still answered.
MC Rich Brophy brought the perfect roast-to-reverence ratio to a crowd of 60+ design lovers. He had questions about fonts and UX. Questions that poked the bear of design opinion. Questions that had some staring into the middle distance, questioning their degree 😵💫. And one about a familiar-sounding team of career partners, with glowing qualities to match the glowy Latin version of their name. ✨Iterāre✨. (Sounds even better whispered.)
In turn, there were opinions. Some loud, all valid. One such loudly valid opinion related to Carlo Spadazzi: our first ever placement 🥇🥹 and certified excellent human 👌. By general consensus and a cheer-off, he was crowned The Most Stereotypical-Looking Designer in a Room of Designers. A tough field. A clear winner.
Then came Sam Bowring: a category of his own 🤸. He arrived at the event with a self-awarded Best Team Name “Double Diamonds Are Forever”, and was publicly revealed to have suddenly always looked like Chris Pontius 🫨 Of course, like a UI element refusing to snap to grid, Party Boy went horizontal in a photo. Again.
But there’s only one crew who walked away with ultimate glory and a stack of DO25 tickets: Congrats to NAB’s finest, aka “Is it a bagel or a donut?”—DO25 Pub Quiz team champs. 🏆🙌
To Rich and everyone who quizzed and mingled with us, thank you for making it the standout night it was. Another round of thanks to The Outlook for bringing it all together, and The Royal Melbourne Hotel for letting us gather under your disco ball.🕺🪩💃
