Contract Senior Software Engineer | Melbourne/Sydney | Hybrid | 4 Days onsite 1 Day WFH
 
Most senior dev roles ask you to write good code. This one asks you to find the problems nobody’s spotted yet, work out how to fix them, and then hand that plan to someone junior in a way that actually sets them up to win.
 
Our client is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to sit within the cloud-based data and analytics engine behind several of their flagship programs the systems quietly making the energy transition work in the background. They’re after a Senior Engineer who can own that end to end: spot the issue in a complex, business-critical system, diagnose it properly, break it into clear tasks, and mentor a junior developer through delivering the fix.
 
What you’ll actually be doing:

• Diagnosing defects and problems across large, complex, integrated systems not just fixing what’s already been flagged
• Designing and building cloud-based software components on AWS, end to end
• Breaking complex work into clear, actionable tasks and supporting junior developers through delivery (plus regular code reviews).
• Working directly with stakeholders to shape solutions and get them endorsed by leadership.
• Helping lift coding standards and practices across the wider team.

 
What you’ll bring:

• Extensive hands-on Python development experience.
• Extensive experience deploying and operating complex software in AWS.
• Strong fundamentals with Git, GitHub Actions and a solid IDE workflow.
• Strong analytical chops; you can pull apart a gnarly production issue and explain it clearly to people who aren’t engineers.
