The opportunity
A major government organisation is transforming the way it operates through a large-scale Dynamics 365 and Power Platform environment. The platform is live. The project teams have built it. Now the hard part starts: making it run properly, sustainably, and without single points of failure.
They need a senior technical leader to step into the BAU team and take ownership of that mission. This is not a “keep the lights on” contract. This is an opportunity to shape how a critical platform is operated, released, and improved from this point forward. You will have direct influence over engineering standards, deployment practices, environment strategy, and team capability. The decisions you make will define whether this platform thrives or stays fragile.
What you will actually do
You will be hands-on. You will write and review code, design solutions, and fix things that are broken. You will also lead, mentor, and coordinate, but the foundation of this role is deep technical involvement, not governance from a distance. Your impact will be felt across several areas. On the platform engineering and DevOps side, you will own and improve CI/CD pipelines, drive deployment automation, reduce manual steps and risk in releases, and establish monitoring, logging, and alerting that actually gives the team visibility into what is happening. You will define the environment strategy and make sure it is consistent and fit for purpose. Within the BAU team itself, you will set the technical direction. You will take ownership of priority backlog items, unblock delivery, mentor team members, and build the capability that means the team can stand on its own without leaning on project resources. You will be the escalation point when things get complex. Across the wider organisation, you will coordinate with project development and architecture teams on solution designs, release processes, and the transition of services from project delivery into BAU ownership. You will ensure systems land in BAU in a state that is documented, monitored, and supportable.
What you need to bring
Your core technical toolkit:
Extensive hands-on experience configuring, customising, and maintaining Power Apps, including Plugins, Power Pages, Power Automate, and Dataverse configuration. Strong working knowledge of Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and integration patterns across distributed systems. Proven experience designing and improving CI/CD deployment pipelines. A solid understanding of environment strategy, configuration management, and release processes.
Your leadership credentials:
A track record of providing hands-on technical leadership in delivery or BAU environments. Experience managing releases end-to-end, including coordinating with architecture and development teams on solution designs and release cadence. Demonstrated ability to mentor and uplift team members, building confidence and capability. Comfort operating across BAU and project teams, navigating shared ownership and influencing without formal authority.
Your approach:
You are pragmatic. You focus on what unblocks delivery and improves reliability, not what looks impressive on a slide. You can translate technical concepts into clear decisions for non-technical stakeholders. You have worked in complex, evolving environments with multiple dependencies and competing priorities, and you have made them simpler.
Why this one is worth your time
You will not be buried in a team of thirty consultants waiting for direction. You will be the technical voice in the room. The platform, the pipelines, the engineering standards, the team’s capability: these are yours to shape. If you want a contract where your experience and decisions genuinely change outcomes, this is it.
