Event wrap: AI Ops meetup

Look what you’ve done, Melbourne. 🫣

Look what you’ve done, Melbourne. 🫣

You’ve gone and made this humble little AI Ops meetup into a full-blown Thing. It had barely announced itself before all 100 spots were gone and another 100 people were knocking at the door.

On Wednesday night, the lucky 💯 descended upon BuildPass. We kept the food and drinks flowing, while Hypermatic had ’90s hip-hop doing very important work in the background.

Room maxxed, waitlist maxxed, the meetup’s topic felt prophetic: Context Maxxing.

First up was JigSpace Senior Frontend Engineer Kate X. Her RAG experiments produced an inconvenient finding: feeding an AI agent 400 pages of documentation can make it less useful 😑 Kate’s lesson? Good context is about relevance, not volume.

Then Matthew Thomas took context somewhere more… bodily.

The pay.com.au Senior Product Designer has been “messing around with electrical myography.” As you do. That’s what he calls experimenting with voice, sensors and body-to-computer interfaces. All in search of more direct ways to tell AI what we actually want.

Wednesdays don’t get much more 2026 than that.

A very warm thank you to Kate and Matthew, and everyone else who made this meetup possible. That’s Buildpass and Hypermatic with the venue & vibes. Hosts Adam B., Ch’an Armstrong and Sam Bowring. And Jolly Yau who helped Adam capture it all. 📸

Next month, we do it again.
Subscribe to the Luma calendar so you don’t miss the invite.
But don’t tell your friends!
Secure your spot first. Then tell your friends. 😉
